Enamelled Pendant with 9ct Gold Chain. The pendant was created by Norwegian.
Made from gilded sterling silver and guilloche enamel. A lone polar bear is standing on a snowy ice flow, the midnight sun glitters pink in the sky. The guilloche enamel creates a beautiful effect of the sun's rays radiating across the top of the pendant.
This is a unique and unusual handmade piece from early 20th century. Trained in 1905 by Clement Berg and worked with both Aksel Holmsen and Ole Olberg. He settled in Oslo in 1914 and established the Bernard Meldahl workshop which specialised in enamel pieces of jewellery. When Bernard Meldahl left in 1931 he continued under his own name O. Hjortdal until his death in 1954.
Marked for Sterling Silver, Norway with 925S and is stamped with the maker's mark. The chain has hallmarks, is 9ct gold, stamped 375 Italy. Some slight wear to the gilding on the back, but still has a strong gold colour. No chips, cracks or damage.
